One Key — A Private Villa in Tulum, Held for One Group

La Chamana Enquire

Private villa, held whole · La Veleta, Tulum

One key to the whole house, and it is yours.

Eight suites, eleven spaces, one reservation — and nobody inside who did not arrive with you.

Come in

The arcade at dusk, the reflecting pool running the length of the house

A house that is only ever let whole.

Why one key

The gate closes behind your group

Most places that call themselves private are private for an hour. A room is yours until the hour ends, then it belongs to whoever booked it next. The corridor is shared. The morning is shared. The silence is shared.

Here the gate closes behind your group and does not open again until you leave. That is the whole proposition, and everything below is only detail.

Three things a facilitator cannot outsource

Privacy. Programme. Everything else.

The first two are yours. The third is the one that eats the month before the retreat, and it is the one the house takes off your hands.

01 · Nobody you did not bring

The gate closes once, behind your group, and does not open again until you leave. Nobody crosses the courtyard who did not arrive with you. Every room, every hour of it, stays yours until the stay ends. The house is rented, not occupied.

02 · The takeover is the gift

A fortieth. A twenty-fifth anniversary. A reunion of friends scattered across three cities. For three nights or more the property stops being a venue and becomes theirs. One long table. One pool. One address that answers only to your group.

03 · The number does not move

Eleven of you or sixteen — the reservation is the whole property either way. Eight suites, no two given the same brief, a private bathroom in each. Nobody draws the short straw. Nobody ends the week on a sofa.

04 · Composed after you reserve

A private chef, a concierge from the first email, and the three rituals the house was built around. Fire in the temazcal. Scent in the lab. Water in the channel. All of it arranged around what the occasion actually asks.

The house

Somewhere to be, for every hour of the day.

A large room is easy to find anywhere. What is rare is somewhere to take one person aside while everyone else carries on, and somewhere to send whoever needs twenty minutes alone.

The Mirrored Temple, a glass volume above the planting
01

Mirrored Temple

The circle. Sixteen seated, glass above the planting, and nothing else in earshot. This is where the week actually happens.

The long table laid for dinner
02

One long table

Dinner ends when your group decides it ends. Nobody arrives to turn the room over, because there is no next booking behind you.

The library, shelves, a velvet sofa and a reading lamp
03

Library & Pensatorium

Where one person goes when the room is doing something they need to sit out. Every circle has that hour. Most venues have nowhere to put it.

The wellness spa seen from above
04

Spa, pools, temazcal

The return. A guided temazcal and one sound healing come with the house - the fire lit an hour before anyone needs it, which is the part nobody tells you about ritual.

The dining room, one long table laid for the evening

Dining Room

One long table.

The night the whole thing was planned around. Sixteen chairs, one table, dinner composed by a private chef. No one else is waiting for the table.

The theatre and tea room, rows of seats facing an arched screen

Theatre & Tea Room

The evening keeps going.

Rows of seats facing an arched screen. The toast, the film of the trip, the story someone has waited twenty years to tell — the room holds all of it.

The Pensatorium, a darkened contemplative room

Pensatorium

Silence, kept.

A darkened room built for the hour nobody planned. Milestones carry weight as well as noise; this is where someone slips away to feel it.

The Equilibrium Room, morning light across the stone

Equilibrium Room

Where the morning starts.

Breakfast happens when your people are awake. The day opens here, slowly, with the light moving across the stone.

There is one door.
For the length of your stay,
your group holds the key.

The practical

What holding the house means

Sixteen, twelve, eight. The eleven spaces do not change, the gate does not change, the three nights do not change. What moves is only how much room each person gets.

16

Two to a suite. The house at its fullest, and the circle at its loudest.

12

Eight suites, four of them held alone. The most common shape a retreat actually takes.

8

One each. The quietest version of the week, and the one people remember differently.

1

One reservation, whichever of the three you choose. Eleven came instead of sixteen. The house did not notice.

From the people who held the week

What the house is like is best said by whoever just left it.

Fuimos un grupo de 8 amigas buscando unas vacaciones relajantes en Tulum, y La Chamana superó lo que imaginábamos. Es una casa que realmente invita a ser vivida.

My stay at La Chamana was quite simply extraordinary. As a luxury travel advisor I have known many beautiful places, but La Chamana is truly one of a kind.

The quiet list

When a week opens, it goes to this list first.

A few notes a year, from the house. Dates that came free, and what the season is actually doing here.
